Sunday 9 June 2024

The Court of First Instance in the Wilayat of Al-Mudhaibi recently issued a judicial ruling against a commercial establishment operating in the kitchen sector for violating the Consumer Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. (66/2014) and its executive regulations. The Court ordered the imprisonment of the establishment's representative and imposed a fine. The history of the case is that , the Consumer Protection Department had received a complaint from one of the consumers in which he stated that he agreed with one of the establishments working in the kitchen sector to manufacture and install a kitchen within 45 days from the date of taking the measurements. As the establishment failed to carry out the work on time, the consumer submitted his complaint to the Administration, which took the necessary measures and referred the complaint file to the Public Prosecution. The Public Prosecution initiated its investigations and then referred the file to the competent court. The court convicted the representative of the establishment of a misdemeanor (breach in providing the properly agreed upon service) and sentenced him to 10 days in prison and a fine.
