The Al Kamil & Al Wafi Court of First Instance recently issued rulings against commercial establishments for violating the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations. The court convicted the establishments and imposed fines on them.
The Consumer Protection Department in South Sharqiyah Governorate received complaints from multiple consumers who had entered into agreements with furniture manufacturing establishments. These consumers reported that the establishments did not fulfill their obligations of completing the furniture manufacturing on time and instead procrastinated in the process. Such actions violate Article 23 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014.
As attempts to reach an amicable settlement failed and the establishments showed a lack of response and cooperation, the complaints were referred to the judicial authorities. The court, after reviewing the case, convicted the establishments of the misdemeanor of non-compliance with the proper provision of the service. The court imposed fines of OMR300 on the establishments and also obligated them to return OMR1030 to the affected consumers.
The Consumer Protection Authority emphasizes the importance of all traders and suppliers complying with the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations, and the decisions issued by the Authority. It urges them to maintain transparency and credibility in their business practices while avoiding misleading advertising and false advertisements when promoting goods and services required by consumers. These measures aim to protect consumer rights and ensure fair practices in the marketplace.
