As part of its ongoing regulatory efforts to safeguard consumer health and safety, the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah, represented by the Consumer Protection Office in Shinas, carried out a raid on an illegal site and seized large quantities of smokeless chewing tobacco, cigarettes, and alcoholic beverages. The operation forms part of the Authority’s continuous efforts to curb the circulation of prohibited products and combat practices that violate the applicable laws and regulations.
The case began after the Directorate received information indicating that expatriate workers were using a residential apartment to illegally sell and distribute smokeless chewing tobacco and its derivatives, in addition to cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. Following the completion of the necessary legal procedures and coordination with the relevant authorities, the site was raided, resulting in the seizure of prohibited products along with materials and equipment used for their preparation and packaging.The Consumer Protection Authority reaffirmed its commitment to continuing inspection campaigns across all governorates of the Sultanate, taking firm action against practices that threaten consumer health and safety. The Authority also urged members of the public to report any suspicious products or unlawful activities, contributing to a safer
consumer environment and supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in enhancing quality of life and strengthening consumer protection.
