Judicial Ruling Convicting a Supplier for Violating the Consumer Protection Law in Muscat Governorate

Sunday 29 March 2026

The Court of First Instance in Muscat Governorate issued a judicial ruling convicting a supplier for violating the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. (66/2014) and its Executive Regulations, due to failure to provide the service to the consumer in a proper manner. The details of the case date back to the Consumer Protection Authority in Muscat Governorate receiving a complaint indicating that the supplier failed to provide the service as agreed, which constitutes a clear violation of the legislation governing the protection of consumer rights. Accordingly, the matter was referred to the Public Prosecution to take the necessary legal actions, which in turn referred the case file to the competent court. The court ruled to convict the defendants and impose a fine of (300) Omani Rials on each of them, in addition to obligating them to pay the legal expenses, and referred the civil claim in its current status to the competent court. The Consumer Protection Authority affirms its continued efforts to monitor suppliers’ compliance with the laws regulating the market and to take the necessary legal measures against any violating practices, in a manner that ensures the protection of consumers’ rights and enhances transparency in transactions. This comes within the framework of efforts aimed at promoting a safe and fair consumer environment and achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in establishing governance principles and protecting rights.
