The Consumer Protection Department in Al Rustaq successfully seized a number of expired paints and building materials during an inspection campaign carried out by the Department on shops selling building materials and paints.
The details of this seizure are attributed to the periodic inspection campaigns conducted by the Authority to monitor the compliance of commercial establishments with the laws and regulations governing markets. During the inspection, the inspectors and enforcement and services specialists observed that a number of expired paints were being displayed for sale, which constitutes a violation of the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and its Implementing Regulation. Accordingly, the seized items were immediately confiscated and withdrawn from the commercial shops and the violating establishments in order to take the necessary legal measures against them. The total number of seized items amounted to 190 cans of paints of various weights. In addition, other building materials were seized, including 8 cans of pipe adhesive, 36 cans of silicone adhesive, and 8 cans of rust remover.
The Consumer Protection Authority calls upon commercial establishments to adhere to the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and its Implementing Regulation and to refrain from displaying or selling any expired goods. The Authority also urges consumers to verify the expiry dates of goods prior to purchase in order to avoid any damages or risks that may result from their use.
