To Protect Consumers from Any Violative Practices “Consumer Protection” in Dhofar Intensifies Market Oversight

The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in the Governorate of Dhofar has intensified its regulatory efforts on markets and commercial centers across the governorate, within the framework of its commitment to strengthening the oversight system over various commercial activities and ensuring suppliers’ compliance with the laws and regulations governing markets. This is aimed at safeguarding consumer rights and contributing to the stability of commercial activity, particularly during the period that witnesses increased demand for purchasing goods and services associated with the occasion of the blessed Eid Al-Fitr. These efforts come within the supervisory plan implemented by the Directorate to monitor market movement and ensure that commercial establishments comply with the applicable regulations. Regulatory teams are conducting continuous inspection visits to monitor market conditions, assess the level of compliance with regulatory requirements, ensure the clarity and proper display of prices, and follow up on the approved exchange and return policies. This contributes to enhancing a fair commercial environment that safeguards consumer rights. The regulatory teams have also continued their efforts during the holy month of Ramadan by conducting intensive inspection campaigns on a number of commercial activities witnessing increased consumer demand. These included shopping malls, furniture and furnishings shops, décor and tailoring shops, in addition to women’s beauty centers and shops selling perfumes, accessories, ready-made garments, and footwear. The inspections aim to monitor suppliers’ compliance with the applicable laws and regulations, verify the clarity of prices, ensure adherence to approved exchange and return policies, and follow up on complaints and reports received from consumers and address them in accordance with the approved procedures. With the approaching Eid Al-Fitr season, the Directorate has intensified its monitoring of markets and activities related to Eid requirements. The supervisory efforts included sweet and nuts shops, flower and packaging shops, as well as monitoring buying and selling activities in the livestock market. This is to ensure suppliers’ compliance with the applicable regulations and to guarantee price transparency, thereby enhancing transparency in commercial transactions and protecting consumers from any violative practices. On the awareness front, the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in the Governorate of Dhofar places great importance on enhancing consumer awareness within the community. During this period, it is implementing a number of awareness messages and materials directed to both suppliers and consumers through various media channels. The aim is to clarify the rights and obligations governing the consumer relationship and to emphasize the importance of clearly announcing prices and adhering to approved exchange and return policies, thereby promoting a culture of compliance and strengthening confidence in the markets. Dr. Taie Salem Al-Junaibi, Director General of the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in the Governorate of Dhofar, affirmed that the Directorate’s supervisory plan will continue during this period, which witnesses an increase in purchasing activity. He noted that the specialized teams continue to carry out inspection visits across various commercial activities in the wilayats of the governorate and to monitor the commitment of commercial establishments to the applicable laws and regulations. He added that these efforts come within the framework of the Directorate’s commitment to enhancing market stability in the governorate and ensuring the provision of goods and services to consumers in accordance with the approved controls. He also called on consumers to cooperate with the Authority and report any violations observed in the markets through the official communication channels, thereby supporting supervisory efforts and achieving a safe and stable consumer environment that serves all.
