To Ensure Market Stability and Protect Consumer Rights Launch of a Temporary Office for the Joint Committee at the Central Market in Sohar

The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate has launched a temporary joint office in cooperation with the relevant authorities at the Central Market in the Wilayat of Sohar, to directly monitor market conditions in a manner that ensures the protection of consumer rights across all commercial sectors. This initiative comes within the framework of the supervisory efforts undertaken by the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate to ensure market stability and safeguard consumer rights. The launch of this office comes in cooperation with the Directorate General of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in North Al Batinah Governorate, represented by the Intellectual Property Department, the Food Control Section at the Directorate General of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in North Al Batinah Governorate, and the Monitoring Department at the Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Batinah Governorate. This cooperation aims to enhance integration and coordination among the relevant government entities in monitoring market conditions. The office aims to monitor prices and market conditions in several sectors, including the livestock trading sector in the livestock selling yards in the Wilayat of Sohar, in addition to monitoring the prices of vegetables and fruits at the central market. It also follows up on the services provided by slaughterhouses to ensure that they are delivered to consumers with ease and convenience, while verifying suppliers’ compliance with the applicable laws and regulations. The office also contributes to monitoring market conditions and ensuring price stability and the quality of services provided, in addition to receiving consumers’ observations and addressing any issues they may encounter while conducting their shopping activities ahead of Eid Al-Fitr 1447 AH. Dr. Abdulhakim Al-Ghailani, Director General of the Directorate General of Consumer Protection, affirmed that the launch of this temporary office comes within the framework of strengthening joint supervisory efforts among the relevant authorities in the governorate and out of keenness to monitor market activity and ensure price stability during this period. He also indicated that the presence of the field office at the Central Market in the Wilayat of Sohar contributes to enhancing the speed of response to consumers’ observations and monitoring suppliers’ compliance with the laws and regulations governing markets, in addition to intensifying oversight of the prices of livestock, vegetables, fruits, and the services provided in slaughterhouses. initiative contributes to strengthening field supervision, ensuring price stability, and protecting consumer rights within the governorate.
