His Excellency Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem Al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority, conducted a visit to South Al Sharqiyah Governorate to review the supervisory and awareness efforts undertaken and to assess the level of services provided to consumers. During the visit, His Excellency met with His Excellency Dr. Yahya bin Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah. The meeting addressed ways to enhance joint cooperation and coordination between the Authority and the Office of the Governor, in a manner that supports supervisory efforts and ensures the integration of roles among the concerned entities, in pursuit of the public interest and to ensure market stability in the Governorate.
The visit included field tours to a number of commercial centers and retail outlets in the Governorate to assess the extent of suppliers’ compliance with the laws and regulations governing markets, verify the availability of goods and price stability, and ensure adherence to disclosure and transparency in product display.
His Excellency also met with a number of owners of commercial establishments, affirming that the Authority seeks to achieve a balance between protecting consumers and supporting a fair and competitive business environment.
His Excellency further met with the staff of the Department of Consumer Protection in the Governorate and reviewed the workflow mechanisms, performance indicators, and the key challenges facing supervisory teams. He emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts and enhancing responsiveness to reports and complaints, in order to safeguard consumer rights and reinforce fairness in the markets.
His Excellency also stressed the importance of developing awareness aspects and intensifying initiatives aimed at raising the level of awareness and consumer culture among members of society. This comes within the framework of the Authority’s commitment to monitoring field operations and strengthening the consumer protection system across the Governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
It is worth noting that this visit comes as part of the approach adopted by the Consumer Protection Authority in maintaining direct communication with its departments in the Governorates and identifying their needs, in a manner that enhances institutional performance efficiency and keeps pace with economic developments, while continuing its supervisory and awareness efforts across the Governorates, thereby enhancing confidence in the markets, safeguarding consumer rights, and consolidating the principles of transparency and fairness.
