Consumer Protection Authority Recovers Amount for a Consumer in Muscat

Thursday 14 August 2025

The Consumer Protection Authority successfully recovered an amount in favor of a consumer who filed a complaint against one of the companies operating in the field of furniture, furnishings, and curtain sales in Muscat. This comes as part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to protect consumer rights and ensure the quality of products and services provided to them. The details of the complaint indicate that the consumer purchased a bedroom set from one of the companies specializing in the sale of furniture, furnishings, and curtains in Muscat for an amount of OMR (600). She reported experiencing burning sensations and eye irritation starting from the day following the installation of the furniture, and believed the cause to be the emission of unusual odors from the wood used in the bedroom furniture, which made the room unusable. The consumer attempted to contact the company through social media platforms and by phone. A representative from the company later visited the house and replaced part of the furniture. However, the issue reoccurred, and there was no effective response from the company. As a result, the consumer submitted a complaint to the Authority, which summoned the parties involved and succeeded in reaching an amicable settlement under which the full amount paid was refunded to the consumer
