The Consumer Protection Authority successfully recovered an amount of OMR (3,200) in favor of a consumer, following a complaint filed against a gold and jewelry store in Muscat Governorate, after discovering discrepancies in the agreed-upon specifications for the execution of gold jewelry pieces.
The details of the case indicate that the consumer had reached an agreement with a jewelry store specializing in gold, silver, and gemstones to craft custom-made jewelry according to specific agreed-upon measurements and designs, with a total value of OMR (6,615). The consumer paid an advance amount of OMR (3,200). However, he later observed that the gold carat and engravings did not match the specifications agreed upon with the seller. This prompted him to file a complaint with the Authority.
Upon investigation and verification by the Authority’s specialists, the consumer's claims were found to be valid. Accordingly, the Authority contacted the supplier and took the necessary legal actions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, which ultimately resulted in a full refund of the amount paid.
The Consumer Protection Authority reaffirms its continued efforts in following up such cases to ensure consumer rights are safeguarded.
