The Consumer Protection Department in South Al Sharqiya Governorate has unveiled the "Consumer Tourist" initiative, launched in collaboration with the Governor's Office and the Heritage and Tourism Department. Under the patronage of His Excellency Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem Al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority, the initiative was inaugurated at the Fateh Al-Khair Cultural Center in Sur. This endeavor seeks to foster a dynamic partnership between the public and private sectors, ensuring the comfort of tourists and safeguarding their consumer rights.
The launch coincides with Sur being named the Arab Tourism Capital for 2024, positioning this initiative as a cornerstone of the celebration. Through this initiative, the Consumer Protection Department aims to bolster its supervisory and educational role, ensuring tourists are well-informed of their consumer rights and responsibilities. Additionally, the initiative educates visitors on procedures to secure their rights as guaranteed by the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations.
The initiative employs diverse methods to achieve its goals. An awareness convoy will traverse key locations, including hotels and tourist attractions across the governorate’s states. This convoy will distribute informative brochures and guidance materials, provide direct explanations of the Authority’s competencies, and employ other creative approaches. The variety of these methods ensures the initiative reaches a broad audience, targeting both domestic and international tourists.
This launch aligns with Oman Vision 2040, reflecting the government's commitment to integration across state institutions. It also strengthens institutional cooperation between various authorities within the governorate, furthering efforts to enhance the tourism experience and protect consumer interests.
