For not providing the agreed upon service: Recovery of OMR 1,500 for a consumer in North Al Batinah Governorate

Sunday 27 October 2024

The Directorate General of Consumer Protection Authority (DGCPA) in North Al Batinah Governorate was able to conclude an amicable settlement between a consumer and a labor recruitment office, and to recover OMR 1,500, as the establishment failed to provide the service on time and according to the agreed requirements. Summary of the case: a consumer complained to the DGCPA about having an agreement with a labor recruitment firm to hire a housemaid. However, the business did not deliver the service that was agreed upon in the agreement between the parties. They did not start any work to complete the agreement, nor did they return the money or respond to the customer's requests. Consequently, the customer complained to DGCAP. Following an investigation of the complaint, the parties came to a mutually agreeable resolution, cancelled the agreement, and the customer received their money back. The Consumer Protection Authority calls on suppliers to abide by the laws in force in the field of consumer protection and to fulfill their requirements and obligations, as this preserves the rights of consumers when providing them with any good or service.
