His Excellency Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem Al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), visited various markets in the Wilayat of Seeb, Muscat Governorate. This visit is part of a series of field inspections aimed at assessing market conditions, reviewing ongoing operations, and enhancing CPA’s role in ensuring fair trade practices. The initiative aligns with the CPA’s mission to continuously improve the quality of its services and enhance market oversight. During the tour, His Excellency visited several specialized shops, commercial centers, and the Maabilah industrial market. The primary goal was to ensure that suppliers are adhering to laws and regulations, including the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations, and related decisions. His Excellency also emphasized the importance of adhering to the terms of the unified contracts initiative, which is designed to standardize agreements between consumers and providers. A key focus of the visit was to verify the availability of price lists and service details, which play a crucial role in organizing the commercial process and maintaining transparency between providers and consumers. His Excellency also took the opportunity to address consumer complaints, review reports, and monitor CPA’s procedures for resolving issues on the ground. In a practical assessment of market conditions, Al Hakmani conducted a "mystery shopping" exercise at one of the commercial centers. This involved comparing the prices of items on the shelf with those at checkout, and verifying the correct application of exemptions for tax-exempt goods. Additionally, the tour included a review of how well malls are supporting local Omani products. On the sidelines of the visit, Al Hakmani met with suppliers, encouraging them to comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and systems. He urged them to take responsibility for consumer protection by continuing their cooperation with CPA, supporting local producers, and promoting Omani products and services. He emphasized the importance of making Omani products the first choice for consumers. His Excellency also took the time to meet with consumers, listen to their feedback, and consider their suggestions. These interactions were aimed at further enhancing the CPA’s performance and ensuring that consumer interests remain a top priority.
