CPA presents a working paper on "Correct Consumer Practice and its Impact on the Consumer"
The Consumer Protection Authority actively participated in the "Consumer Cultural Awareness Forum for Young People" organized by the Omani Society for Consumer Protection. The event took place under the patronage of Dr. Mona bint Salem Al-Jardania, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation for Vocational Training. His Excellency Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem Al-Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Consumer Protection Society, was also present, alongside Saeed bin Nasser Al-Khusaibi and representatives from various government and private institutions, universities, colleges, schools, and Omani Women's Associations in Muscat Governorate.
The forum, held at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque Hall in Bausher, aimed to enhance awareness and cultural understanding among young individuals. It focused on improving the quality of services in health, education, culture, social, and economic fields for students across schools, universities, and colleges.
Dr. Munira bint Abdullah Al-Fikri, Media Specialist at the CPA, delivered a working paper titled "Healthy Consumer Practice and its Impact on the Consumer." Her presentation covered three main areas: consumer rights in law, safe food consumption, and the risks associated with prohibited goods. The CPA's involvement underscored its commitment to raising awareness among young people about correct economic practices, including purchasing goods and products while understanding their consumer rights as guaranteed by the Consumer Protection Law. The initiative also aimed to educate youth about safe food consumption practices and the importance of consumer safety, as well as protecting them from prohibited goods, thereby promoting responsible commercial conduct.
The working papers presented by participants at the forum addressed various themes, such as educating young individuals about proper purchasing practices and the impact of goods and products on consumers, both positively and negatively. The discussions also covered the psychological effects of consumer behavior, the importance of dealing with smart and electronic products to prevent fraud, and the significance of understanding product quality and consumption patterns. Additionally, the forum highlighted the importance of fostering positive behaviors in food purchasing and consumption, promoting physical activity, and educating students about identifying deceptive advertising tactics both locally and internationally.
The collaborative efforts to organize educational and awareness programs for young people represent a crucial step towards enhancing coordination between government entities and educational institutions to achieve mutual objectives and promote consumer awareness and protection.
