RECALL OF MORE THAN 12,000 TOYOTA VEHICLES

Sunday 12 May 2024

The Consumer Protection Authority, in cooperation with Saud Bahwan Automotive Group, initiated a recall campaign for 12,026 vehicles. These include (9844) Toyota Land Cruisers, of which (300) were manufactured between 11 December 2020 and 15 January 2024; (51) Lexus LX (500) diesel vehicles, manufactured between 12 July 2021 and 15 January 2024; and (2131) LX vehicles (600) manufactured between 8 July 2021 and 19 January 2024. Consumers can check the recall webpage on the CPA electronic portal (recall.pacp.gov.om) to verify the chassis numbers. The brake clutch disc in the gearbox assembly has a design flaw that has led to the recall. The engine power is delivered to the wheels and the brake clutch discs are disengaged from the plates when the gearbox is moved to a neutral position without applying any pressure to the clutch piston. The car may inadvertently move ahead at a slower pace of up to 4 miles per hour if the driver does not apply the brakes, increasing the possibility of an accident. Consequently, the automated gearbox electronic control unit will be reprogrammed by the company. These recalls attest to the Authority's efforts regarding traffic safety, carried out in collaboration with relevant agencies and in keeping with its unwavering desire to constantly review all goods available in Sultanate of Oman marketplaces to guarantee that consumers are adequately protected in every way.
