The Court of First Instance in the wilayat of Sohar and Liwa issued two judicial rulings convicting the representatives of two establishments of the misdemeanor of not committing to providing the service properly, punishing them with a fine of OMR1000 and suspending and closing the activity of one of them. The court ordered the other establishment to pay the consumer RM550 as compensation.
In the first case, a consumer filed a complaint with the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in Sohar. The complaint stated that the consumer had agreed with a building contracting establishment to establish a house within the period specified in the contract. Unfortunately, the representatives of the establishment procrastinated and did not complete the work according to the agreement. They did not commit to providing the service properly. The consumer submitted his complaint to the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in Sohar, which took the necessary measures and referred the complaint to the Public Prosecution in Sohar for investigation. The Public Prosecution decided to transfer the complaint to the competent court, which issued a ruling convicting the representatives of the establishment of the misdemeanor of non-compliance with providing the service properly. The court imposed a fine of OMR 1000 and suspended and closed the activity of the establishment.
In the second case, a consumer stated that they had an agreement with one of the establishments supplying and installing laundries to install laundries for their house within the period specified in the contract. The representative of the establishment did not complete the work and did not commit to providing the service properly. The consumer submitted their complaint to the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in Sohar, which took the necessary measures and referred it to the competent authorities. The Court issued a judgment convicting the representatives of the establishment of the misdemeanor of non-compliance with providing the service to the consumer properly and in accordance with its nature. The court ordered the imposition of a fine and ordered the establishment to pay the consumer OMR 550. The establishment was also obligated to pay the legal expenses. The court rejected the rest of the requests.
