The Consumer Protection Department in South Batinah Governorate (Barka) recently took action to protect consumer rights and ensure a safe market environment. In response to a complaint from a consumer, the department investigated and discovered that a commercial establishment was selling furniture made of used materials while falsely claiming it was new. The consumer had contracted with the establishment for the manufacture of furniture but found that the quality did not meet the specified standards.
Based on the investigation's findings, the Consumer Protection Department issued a report against the establishment, seized the materials used in the furniture, and ordered the establishment to refund the amount paid by the consumer. Additionally, the establishment was fined OMR1000 for violating Article 7 of the Consumer Protection Law, which prohibits trading in counterfeit, corrupt, counterfeit, or unauthorized goods and their advertisement.
The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) emphasizes its commitment to conducting thorough supervision and inspection activities to ensure a safe market for consumers and uphold their rights as guaranteed by the law. The CPA encourages consumers to report any market violations they come across through various communication channels. By actively involving consumers, the CPA aims to create a transparent and fair consumer market while holding businesses accountable for their actions.
