Thursday 3 October 2024

as part of inter-institutional cooperation, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) and the Directorate General of Standards and Metrology (DGSM) at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MCIIP) continue their joint inspection efforts. The objective of the campaign is to conduct market inspections across several shared sectors in Muscat Governorate and it will continue until October 2024. It mainly aims to inspect household appliances, including water heaters, household plugs and chargers, electric cooking pots, blenders, juicers, grinders, hair dryers and dressers, in order to detect frauds and counterfeit goods that do not meet to the approved requirements. These efforts are done to ensure that malls and shops comply with the Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations and CPA decisions, detect and eliminate bad practices in the markets, take action against violators and prevent any future violations, reduce complaints, save time and effort for all parties involved, leading to a positive impact on the economy and consumer spending. It is noteworthy that CPA’s participation in the joint campaign is part of its ongoing effort to protect consumers, meet their needs, defend their rights, and collaborate with different government institutions.
